Softball Registration Information 2009 season
The Sands Softball Complex features: irrigated outfields, sand mix infields and top-of-the-line Musco lighting. The adjoining Cabana area includes a covered seating area, brick patios and a mini-bar serving cold beer and sodas.
Our softball leagues emphasize fun and sportsmanship. We are not interested in the most talented or competitive teams. Softball is played for fun at the Sands. Together with the teams, we are making Des Moines' only private softball club a quality, safe, fun place to play. At the Sands we use one piece, single wall bats and restricted flight balls. Nothing fancy. Bat List Our bases are safety edged.
LEVELS OF PLAY
The Sands is a recreational league. No A or B players. You guess your level when you register. We divide up the leagues for second session using first session's results. Typically there are a few strong teams, a few weak teams and most teams fall in between. On the schedule we try to keep the strong and the weak from playing each other. Each season most of the teams should be at your level. By popular request, a home run limit of has been added. The homerun limit in Men's leagues will be five*. The homerun limit in Co-Ed leagues will be three*.
* Homerun limits in state tournaments: there is a homerun limit of two in class D, and a homerun limit of four in class B.
Social Level: You are here for fun, cold beer and nice fields. Your team is not very good but enjoys playing softball. Your players have not participated in A or B tournaments, or even thought about it.
C/D Level: Your team is decent. No players have participated in A or B tournaments or leagues within the last three years.
